Consulting Interview:

Daily Work:

4-week projects for analysis, 3-6 months up to a year for projects. Partner finds projects to do

Work Methodology:

You start with a conclusion, know your various hypotheses, and why you assume that the hypotheses are valid

• Analyse background -> find performance gap -> different conclusions -> text hypotheses with customers

Examples:

• Semiconductor Company in China that produces 3rd gen semiconductor material, finds a new coating for crucibles to reuse them and reduce costs significantly for SiC production

• Deflation problem: the population is spending less -> prices have to go down. McDonald's and KFC are doing great. Probably 2-3 years will be good for them, and then they have to go down with costs as well

  • McDonald's is doing great, and they want to just preserve their market shares -> reducing costs with the supply chain

  • KFC: they have a good supply chain for chicken -> use their advantage to create new healthy brands to compete with brands like Wagas, a more affordable midnight grills brand, to compete with existing restaurants

• Family office: invest in more early-stage companies and later sell to PE firms

Asked me how it's been going and what I've been learning and if I've seen anything similar

I answered that it 's OK and that that it's logical, just about different processes

He continued with explaination of why it is important for a company and why big companies need it

Need to improve:

• I already knew everything he was saying -> I did not express myself clearly, my communication is bad so he felt the need to say something

• I need to talk more than the bare minimum, engage more, practice my talking skills. It is not a waste of time

• Find the important / essential points of each topic, give a concise summary, know exactly what and how I am going to say something. My mind needs to be clearer when talking even when I am troubled with other things.
